* Jesus was explaining what the kingdom of heaven was like.
* So He spoke in parables - stories to make it clear.
* In these two, He compared it to a treasure and a pearl.
* It talked about the VALUE of the kingdom.
* Both the Treasure and the pearl were hidden.
* You’ve got to search and dig for it.
* Same is true with the truth in the Scriptures.
* Vs 44 - Treasure:
* He went looking for something.
* The field wasn’t his, so he had to pay for it to get it.
* He had to give up something of value to get something of greater value that others didn’t think was that valuable.
* He hid the treasure so nobody could steal it.
* Vs 45-46 - Pearl:
* He was a jewel merchant - he was in the biz of searching for jewels.
* An occupation is work you do for a reward.
* Searching for kingdom truth is extremely rewarding.
* There is abundant treasure buried in God’s Word - but we gotta go looking for it.
* But you won’t start digging until you first realize its value.
* Imagine the previous owner of the field - he may have thought, “Why didn’t I ever take the time to go search for treasure in my field?”
* It was his but he took it for granted.
* Finding treasure costs time and energy, and when you find it it will cost you to make it your own.
* But there’s no price too great to pay when you discover the kingdom of God.
