John's murder brings up the political scene in Judea. We won't deal much with it, except to say that Herod, Pilate, the Jewish Leaders and a bunch of other elite people conspired to kill Jesus as well. The most important political application in the present is to understand that things haven't changed much, and that people are still targeted politically when they go against the "favored groups."
