* Jesus calls Peter three names.

* They address who he was, who he is, and who he could become.

* KEY - before Jesus told Peter who he was Peter confessed who Jesus was.

* So many people are searching for themselves.

* But they won’t find their identity until they properly identify the son of God!

* He is Savior, Messiah, Lord.

* After Peter property identified Jesus (surrendering to Him as Lord), Jesus addressed Peter’s identity:

* Name # 1 (vs 17): Simon bar-Jonah - “Simon son of John.”

* This is who you were, where you came from. It’s important to know this.

* Name # 2 (vs 18): Peter - “petros, a small rock or stone.”

* This is who you have now become.

* His confession (small rock) made a bigger rock “petra, a giant rock like Gibralter.”

* Name # 3 (vs 23): Satan - “the adversary”

* This is who you can be if you’re not focused properly.

* Peter went from a stone to a stumbling block.
