* Jesus is giving us His Magnum Opus - His inaugural address for the coming of His kingdom.
* He goes “beyond” the law and speaks to the motivations of the heart.
* Vs 19 - Look at the four parts of His warning. Do not:
* 1) Store up - this is a result of two different mindsets:
* The poverty mindset - refusing to trust God to supply all your needs (hungry kid).
* The collector’s mindset - refusing to be content with what you have (JD Rockefeller).
* 2) For yourself - putting your thing above others.
* Jesus taught us to pray “OUR.” It’s all about others.
* 3) Treasures - He didn’t say “stuff,” He said “treasures.”
* Stuff turns to treasure by the value you place on it.
* Vs 21 will tell us why.
* 4) On earth - don’t live for the “here and now” - live for eternity.
* Recognize God’s reward system in Heaven.
* An eternal perspective gives you proper perspective - things will burn, but relationships last forever.
* Result - Moths and rust both destroy things that are stored - not used. Thieves steal
* Vs 20 - Heavenly reward is determined by our motivation - did we do it for God or for ourselves?
* Vs 21 - Your heart follows what you value.
* When you value things over people you will “feel” for things what you should “feel” for people.
* This always results in despair, because God made you to treasure people over things.
* Vs 22 - what you value is determined by how you see it.
* Vs 23 - If the window is dirty the house is dark (no light).
* Vs 24 - How you see money will determine how you treat it.
* If you see money as a tool to build and grow God’s kingdom you will store up treasures in heaven.
