The Sermon on the Mount is an extraordinary sermon. It has order, unity, and progress. It also has a memorable conclusion. Starting with Matthew 7.13-14, Jesus begins His conclusion with the first of four metaphors. Each metaphor has a single purpose: to contrast as sharply as possible the destiny of those who practice what He preaches with the destiny of those who do not. The Golden Rule of Matthew 7.12 is followed by the Golden Call of Matthew 7.13-14, and is itself part of the Golden Conclusion of the Sermon on the Mount.
