Matthew begins the show by telling us his first memory when he fell in love with music. In the 1980’s he wrote songs in high school and talks about being in the band called- “The Specs.” He explains how he was discovered in 1984 when he signed a solo deal with Columbia records. We discuss his top 10 single “Girlfriend” that will be turning 30 along with the album that was re-titled. What was the original name and why was it changed?
Hear what it was like working with Lindsey Buckingham along with the insight into the cover of Walter Eagan’s “Magnet & Steel” for Sabrina the Teenage Witch LP. Doing “Sail on Sailor” with Darius Rucker for a tribute to Brian Wilson and then performing it with Brian on David Letterman. We discuss how the songs are chosen for “Under the Covers” that have three volumes. Could there be a volume four coming?
He was featured on “The Simpsons” as he wrote a song for an episode, the story behind this that includes playing bass for Homer Simpson and a small guest voice appearance. In 2021 he released “Catspaw” that he recorded in his home studio. What were the inspirations for the songs and playing his first solo effort on lead guitar?
