Despite being a Dub living in Galway Maura is working for The Hope Foundation which is a 23 year old Cork based charity. It was set up in 1999 by Maureen Forrest with the initial objective of helping out 20 young women who she came across on the streets of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) in India. The aim is to provide them with health care and education.However it has grown to the point where they have provided care for up 3 million people living in the slums of a City with a population of 15 million people.Monday 10th -17th is the week of the Hope Fundraising initiative. Where volunteers from secondary schools will be taking to the streets and shopping centres with buckets to collect much needed funds. You can also purchase chocolate bars which will go towards the Hope Foundation for as little as €2 which will feed a child for 2 days.
