Maximizing Downtime

Listen Later

What do you do when you have down time? More importantly did you plan for the day?We often talk about getting organized or say “when I get more time I will…” But then we fail to get these things done. I am far from perfect but I can tell you that having a plan to work on it will make sure you at least are getting more done than you were before and actually free up time to enjoy other things.
Use some form of tracking to manage your time and make lists of things you want to get done that day. I use Trello but have used Freedcamp, Google Keep, and also just a sheet of paper.
Things we can do when we have down time.
  • Clean up your pipeline. Make sure everyone is dispositioned correctly and that we have good notes from previous conversations.
  • Work on deals that have underwriting issues that you have either not started or need to follow up with the client. You have already done the work to get the sale. Don't let it fall apart.
  • Call back clients we closed to see how things are going and see if we can add those additional products we didn't get at first.
  1. This means being organized from the get go and being committed to making good notes and good follow ups.
  2. This is also good customer service. Ask for a referral at this time. (What a great time to ask for a referral)
  • Call back clients you didn't close because you didn't have the right product at the time. This may require making lists of people and why you didn't close them so you can keep track.
  • Call a Mortgage broker or Real estate agent you met to see how they are doing. Keep the relationship alive.
  • Make social media posts. Have them prepared to drop when you want them.
  • Make email templates so that you can get your quotes out faster.
  • Make Voicemail templates for follow ups (we will go over this on another podcast)
  • Go for a walk and stretch. (short and to the point. Make it meaningful)
  • Track your progress and goals.
  • Set next months goals based on current performance
  • Attend training. (Don't just do one to fill time. Set it on your calendar for a reason)
  • Listen to someone else on the phone. (If you are not closing or striking out. Critiquing someone else's call will help you find out what you are doing wrong. It is easier to give feedback to someone else than it is for yourself but you will see your mistakes clearer in them.) Bring a notepad.
  • Clean and declutter your desk and notes.

Non work related things that are better than watching Youtube. (Clear your mind)
  • Make a grocery list.
  • Work on your monthly budget.
  • Read a business related book.
  • Check on your child's grades and homework.
  • Pay your bills
