📖 Devotional — Day 1: The Heart That Chooses to Heal

May 1

Proverbs 4:23

Scripture:

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything flows from it.”

Devotional Reading:

There is a moment — quiet, almost imperceptible — when the heart makes a decision. Not a loud decision. Not one announced with fanfare or certainty. Just a small, brave, trembling yes. A yes that says I am not done. I am not finished. I am choosing — in spite of everything — to heal.

That is where you are today.

Your heart has been through things that left marks. Things that changed the way you enter rooms, the way you trust people, the way you hold hope at arm’s length just in case it disappoints you again. And none of that happened by accident. It happened because you felt things deeply. Because you loved fully. Because you were human in all the most beautiful and vulnerable ways.

But today — today your heart is making a new choice. And that choice is the beginning of everything.

Proverbs 4:23 does not say guard your heart because it is fragile. It says guard your heart because everything flows from it. Your heart is not a liability. It is a source. It is the origin of your creativity, your compassion, your courage, your capacity to love and be loved. And a heart that is healing is a heart that is coming back online — reclaiming its power, its voice, its rightful place as the center of a life fully lived.

Choosing to heal does not mean choosing to be pain-free immediately. It means choosing to tend. To water. To show up for the most important relationship you will ever have — the one with yourself and with the God who made you.

He is not waiting for you to be whole before He draws close. He is close right now. In the choosing. In the beginning. In the yes.

Reflection Questions:

What is one area of your heart that you are ready to begin tending to today? What does choosing to heal look like practically for you this month?

Prayer:

Lord, I bring my heart to You today — all of it. The healed parts and the hurting parts. The hopeful parts and the hardened parts. I choose to heal. I choose to tend. I choose to trust You with what is most precious inside of me. Guard my heart as I learn to guard it too. Amen.

⏱️ 3 Minutes to Sit and Listen to God:

Set a timer for three minutes. Put down your phone, close your eyes, and simply be still. No agenda. No prayer list. Just you and God in the quiet. If a thought comes — let it pass. If a word or image rises — hold it gently. This is not a time to speak. This is a time to listen. He has something to say to your heart today. Give Him the space to say it.
