The original gospel was pretty plain and simple: God loves us, God forgives us, God offers us eternal life through Jesus Christ. But from the earliest Christians to today, people have tried to add to it. But these additions have typically reflected our preferences and biases, effectively narrowing the scope of the gospel and who "qualifies" for it. We need a return to the original, simple, inclusive message.
