Listen Later

Leon and Beth are back with your May sky guide from SciTech, recorded on Whadjuk Noongar land. This month, they kick off with Star Wars Day (of course), before diving into what’s actually visible on May the 4th! Mars and the Moon hanging close together, Gemini shining in the north, and a rare ISS flyover threading the gap between the Twins.

Hear the ancient tale of Hercules’ very first labour and why Leo’s intergalactic butt is home to a trio of galaxies, including the oddly delicious Hamburger Galaxy.

Early risers are in for a treat too: Venus and Saturn beam brightly before dawn, and on May 5 you’ll catch the Eta Aquariids meteor shower bits of dust left behind by Halley’s Comet, lighting up the sky at a rate of one meteor per minute in ideal conditions. Whether you're chasing meteors or waving at astronauts, May’s night sky has it all.
