Morning Prayer for Friday in Week 6 of Easter before Ascension
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
Per crucem et passionem tuam
English translation
Through Thy Cross and Passion,
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 Have courage my son; your sins are forgiven, alleluia.
Psalm 51
Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness.
My offenses truly I know them;
That you may be justified when you give sentence
Indeed you love truth in the heart;
Make me hear rejoicing and gladness,
A pure heart create for me, O God,
Give me again the joy of your help;
O rescue me, God, my helper,
For in sacrifice you take no delight,
In your goodness, show favor to Zion:
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Father, he who knew no sin was made sin for us, to save us and restore us to your friendship. Look upon our contrite heart and afflicted spirit and heal our troubled conscience, so that in the joy and strength of the Holy Spirit we may proclaim your praise and glory before all the nations.
Ant. Have courage my son; your sins are forgiven, alleluia.
Ant.2 You go forth to save your people, to save your anointed one, alleluia.
Canticle – Habakkuk 3:2-4, 13a, 15-19
O Lord, I have heard your renown,
God comes from Teman,
His splendor spreads like the light;
You tread the sea with your steeds
Decay invades my bones,
For though the fig tree blossom not
Though the flocks disappear from the fold
God, my Lord, is my strength;
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. You go forth to save your people, to save your anointed one, alleluia.
Ant. 3 Zion, give praise to your God; he has brought peace to your borders, alleluia.
Psalm 147:12-20
O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!
He has strengthened the bars of your gates
He sends out his word to the earth
He hurls down hailstones like crumbs.
He makes his word known to Jacob,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Lord, you established peace within the borders of Jerusalem. Give the fullness of peace now to your faithful people. May peace rule us in this life and possess us in eternal life. You are about to fill us with the best of wheat: grant that what we see dimly now as in a mirror, we may come to perceive clearly in the brightness of your truth.
Ant. Zion, give praise to your God; he has brought peace to your borders, alleluia.
READING Acts 5:30-32
The God of our fathers has raised up Jesus whom you put to death, hanging him on a tree. He whom God has exalted at his right hand as ruler and savior is to bring repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. We testify to this. So too does the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those that obey him.
Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church.
RESPONSORY
The Lord is risen from the tomb, alleluia, alleluia.
He hung upon the cross for us,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH
Ant. Because he suffered death, we see Jesus crowned with glory and honor, alleluia.
Luke 1:68 – 79
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High;
In the tender compassion of our God
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
Ant. Because he suffered death, we see Jesus crowned with glory and honor, alleluia.
INTERCESSIONS
God the Father raised up Christ through the Spirit, and will also
All-holy Father, you accepted the holocaust of your Son in raising him from the dead,
Look with favor on all we do today,
May our work today not be in vain but for the good of the whole world,
Open our eyes today to recognize our brothers and sisters, and our hearts to love them,
Our Father who art in heaven,
Concluding Prayer
Hear our prayers, O Lord,
DISMISSAL
May the Lord bless us,
