Also, as a palate cleanser for the ableist language this 1962 book uses to describe Nancy’s volunteer work at the “crippled children’s home,” we recommend the amazing middle grade novel The Odds by Lindsay Puckett for a great fantasy read featuring a protagonist who balances her chronic pain, fifty-three magical grandparents, and, of course, figuring out how to deal with a soul-sucking ghoul.
