Mayor Bill Dalton: Napier Council doing all it can to sort out McLean Park

Listen Later

Napier City Council are doing all they can to ensure McLean Park is up to scratch.
The Napier stadium continues to suffer from drainage problems which have caused three of the last eight one-dayers to be called off, including yesterday's against Australia.
Napier City mayor Bill Dalton told D'Arcy Waldegrave on The Sauce it's a balancing act.
"With a sand-based park, you need to continually water it. As soon as you stop watering your sand-based park in Hawke's Bay summer, the grass just browns off dies."
Dalton said there's no reason next month's match against South Africa won't go ahead, with the drainage issues just bad luck.
New Zealand Cricket will work with McLean Park in the coming weeks to ensure it's up to standard.
