May 8th, Brooks & Dunn and Reba McEntire played The Myriad.
That was a huge country bill for that era.
Then May 11th went in a completely different direction.
Reverend Horton Heat played The Boar’s Head, while Metallica and Corrosion of Conformity played The Myriad Gardens on the Poor Touring Me tour.
That was Metallica in the Load era, with COC making the bill even heavier.

August 06, 2026 Molly Hatchet, The Tragically Hip, & Prong Shows
October 14th brought Prong, Clutch, and Drown.
October had a strong run of shows at The Roxy.
That was one of those snap-your-fingers kind of lineups. Heavy, tight, and a great deal at only $8 in advance or $10 day of show.
And Clutch for ten bucks?
Money well spent.
The very next night, The Roxy flipped into southern rock mode with Molly Hatchet.
Seven dollars.
Danny Joe Brown was still with them, and the band was hot that night. Southern rock at its finest, packed into a club setting where you could feel it up close.
Then came The Tragically Hip.
A Canadian band that could play massive venues back home, but in the United States, especially in Oklahoma, you could still catch them in a smaller room.
That show was at the Brewery, and it was one of those special ones.
A band that was huge somewhere else, playing a room where not everybody fully understood what they were seeing yet.
Prong and Clutch at The Roxy.
Molly Hatchet the next night.
The Tragically Hip at the Brewery.
Three different sounds.
Three different crowds.
One more reminder of how wild those Oklahoma concert calendars really were.

RATT, Steven Pearcy, & Scott Johnson
RATT at In Cahoots June 17th, 1997, Oklahoma City
That venue tells part of the story. By the late 90s, some of the 80s hair metal bands were in their lean years, playing rooms people might not expect.
In Cahoots was a country bar.
But RATT still did not disappoint.
The show had Warren DeMartini and Robbie Crane in the lineup, Hair of the Dog as special guest, and a cool Back for More backstage pass.
Then the story turns to Scott Johnson.
The biggest RATT fan they know.
Scott’s connection with the band ran deep. He had stories, friendships, and enough history that they would call him when they were in the area.
From arenas to rough bar gigs, Scott loved RATT through every era.
That is real fandom.

August 04, 2026 Aerosmith & KISS World Domination Tour
KISS and Aerosmith at the Ford Center.
15,000 people.
With a production that big, the stage had to be pushed up, nobody sat behind it, and there were no restricted-view seats sold.
So 15,000 in that setup was basically a sellout.
That bill was massive.
KISS and Aerosmith together made sense. Big songs, big production, and a packed arena.
Then the conversation turned to Ace Frehley and Peter Criss showing up at a Mötley Crüe show to support John 5.
For a KISS fan, that is huge.
Imagine growing up on Ace and Peter, then having them show up for you.
That is rock and roll respect.

October 2003 had a loud run of shows.
October 20th, Dropkick Murphys and The Casualties played the Diamond Ballroom with 473 people in the room.
That number feels low now, but back in 2003, Dropkick Murphys were still building their crowd.
Then there was Static-X at Cain’s Ballroom with Soil, Scrape, and Twisted Method.
Wayne Static always brought that industrial metal energy, and that show was a good one.
The next night, October 21st, Sworn Enemy and Bleeding Through played Curly’s with a stack of support bands.
That was hardcore at its finest.
Circle pit night.
Dropkick Murphys at the Diamond.
Static-X at Cain’s.
Sworn Enemy and Bleeding Through at Curly’s.
Three rooms.
Three different kinds of loud.

One night was John Mayer at the Cox Convention Center.
Max says he did not really pay much attention to Mayer at first, but that changed after seeing him play with legends like Eric Clapton, J.J. Cale, and B.B. King.
That was the moment he realized John Mayer could really rip.
Then the next show went in a much heavier direction.
February 10, 2007.
Drowning Pool, Saliva, and Crossfade at the Diamond Ballroom.
896 people in the room.
That was a perfect mid-2000s rock bill, and those bands could probably still tour together today.
John Mayer one night.

August 01, 2026 KISS, Aerosmith, All American Rejects, & Blue October Shows
December 14, 2003 was a loaded night in Oklahoma City.
At the Bricktown Event Center, it was All American Rejects, Something Corporate, Blue October, and Headroom.
All American Rejects were taking off, Blue October was on the bill, and Headroom brought in the local side.
But across town at the Ford Center, KISS and Aerosmith were playing the same night.
And here is the trivia.
That OKC show was just two shows before Peter Criss played his last show with KISS.
So one crowd was at Bricktown for a big pop-rock lineup, while another was at the Ford Center watching a piece of KISS history.
Same night.
Same city.
Two major shows.

Ace Frehley At The Diamond & Tyler, Texas
Ace Frehley at the Diamond Ballroom was one of those shows that should have had way more people in the room.
The show was amazing.
But hardly anybody was there.
It was around 2008, and even with a light crowd, Ace still brought it.
Then years later, there was another wild Ace Frehley memory in Tyler, Texas.
Ace Frehley and Enuff Z’Nuff played inside a pool hall.
Maybe 200 people were there, and the room was covered with posters from bands that had played the Diamond Ballroom.
That is the kind of small-room rock show you do not forget.
Whether it was the Diamond or a billiards room in Texas, Ace still delivered.

Early 2007 had two very different rock shows back to back.
One night had 3 Days Grace, Buckcherry, and Red.
Buckcherry was making the rounds, Red was still tied strongly to the Christian rock scene, and 3 Days Grace still had Adam Gontier in the band.
But the next night was the one Jay really remembered.
February 2, 2007.
Slayer and Unearth at the Bricktown Event Center.
No local opener.
Just Unearth and Slayer.
That show was absolutely incredible.
Slayer did not play Oklahoma City all the time, so when they came through, it mattered.
Big room.
Heavy crowd.
No filler.
Just Slayer tearing through Bricktown.

July 29, 2026 Sponge Lead Singer Arrested In Tulsa
Roar Festival hit the Zoo Amphitheatre on July 8, 1997, with a stacked lineup.
Gravity Kills, Sugar Ray, Sevendust, Bloodhound Gang, Iggy Pop, Sponge, Reverend Horton Heat, and The Nixons.
Tickets were only $15.
The first half of the bill almost felt like a TVT Records tour, with Gravity Kills, Sevendust, and Bloodhound Gang all tied into that same scene.
But the wild story happened the day before in Tulsa at Mohawk Park.
Vinnie, the lead singer of Sponge, got arrested for profanity.
Cursing on stage.
Then the festival rolled into Oklahoma City the next day with that story already attached to it.
That was 90s rock festival chaos.
Hot day. Loud bands. Cheap ticket.
And somehow, even the curse words made history.
