This week was a rough one -- my eldest ended up in the PICU for a week with RSV and Parainfluenza. Stressed to the max. It caused me to reflect on how I need to be supported and how others can support special needs parents in need.
First, special needs mama: Accept the help and ask for it! When people say, "let me know if you need anything," take them up on it. If they come through -- great! If not, oh well. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Here is how others can be helpful to special needs parents in need:
1) Be present
2) Know you don't have to solve the problem
3) Take things off their plate
4) Don't ask too many questions
5) Be there after the storm
