“Transfiguration Mountain: the Place of Grace to Return to”

1. The Old Testament is heading to the cross

* High mountain = Mt. Hermon (altitude 2,814m)

* Moses & Elijah = law & the prophets = expressing the Old Testament overall

* Luke 9:31 “They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.” (NIV)

* People who turned to the savior, Jesus Christ)

2. The Old Testament is heading to the cross

* The testimony of Kazuko Ando

3. The place to return to during a trial

* The incorrect image people at that time had

Messiah = Political leader (Someone to liberate Israel from the Roman Empire)

Forerunner Elijah = Victor

* Mark 9:12 (See above)

* The suffering Messiah

* The forerunner Elijah (the tragedy of John the Baptist)

* What happened to the forerunner happened to the Messiah, and what happened to the Messiah happens to those who believe in Him

* 2 Peter 1:16-18 “For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’ We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.” (NIV)
