“A New Heaven & A New Earth”

1. I saw “a new heaven and a new earth”

* Revelation 21:1 “first” = the first, the former

* Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (NIV)

* Matthew 24:35 “ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” (NIV)

* 2 Peter 3:10 “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.” (NIV)

* Revelation 21:1 “new” = “kainos” in Greek = quantitatively completely new

2. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven

3. I heard a loud voice from the throne

* Revelation 21:3 “loud voice” = the voice of an angel

* 1 Corinthians 13:12 “For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” (NIV)

4. I heard the voice of he who was seated on the throne

* Revelation 21:5 “he who was seating on the throne” = the Lord, Jesus Christ

* Revelation 21:5 “make new” = build anew

* Revelation 21:6 “It is done.” = non-negotiable decision (prophetic perfect form)

5. The two types of inheritance

* Hebrews 11:8-10 “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” (NIV)
