“Genealogy Speaks”

1. The history of Adam

* Genesis 5:1 “family line” = “toldot” in Hebrew = lineage, family tree, descendants

“written account” = “sefer” in Hebrew = book

2. Man as the likeness of God

* Genesis 5:3 “…he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image…” (NIV)

* Colossians 1:15 “The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.” (NIV)

* 2 Corinthians 3:18 “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being

transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”(NIV)

* Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (NIV)

3. Remarkable longevity

* Genesis 2:17 “but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat

from it you will certainly die.” (NIV)

* John 5:24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal

life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” (NIV)
