“In Those Eyes”

1. Details of Jesus’ pain

* Mark 14:36 “‘Abba, Father,’ he said, ‘everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.’” (NIV)

* What is “this cup”?

Psalm 11:6 “Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.” (ESV)

Isaiah 51:17 “Awake, awake! Rise up, Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the LORD the cup of his wrath, you who have drained to its dregs the goblet that makes people stagger.” (NIV)

* Luke 22:44 “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” (NIV)

* The meaning of Jesus’ pain in Gethsemane

2. Why did He accept that fate?

* Why did Father God make Jesus face such pain?

* The love of Father God:

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (NIV)

* The love of Jesus:

Hebrews 12:2 “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (NIV)

3. Contrast with the disciples

* Their spiritual eyes were closed

2. Reconfirm the love of Father God and the love of Jesus.
