“A Messiah of Grace, Not a Political Messiah”
Pastor Joey Anjiki
1. Judas’ betrayal
* John 18:3 “So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons.” (NIV)
* Mark 14:45 (See above)
2. Peter's heinous acts
* Mark 14:47 (See above)
* Luke 22:51 “But Jesus answered, ‘No more of this!’ And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.” (NIV)
* Two reasons why Jesus healed the Roman soldier
* Jesus willingly chose to go to the cross
* John 10:18 “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” (NIV)
3. A Messiah of grace, not a political Messiah
* Events at Polsmoor Prison in South Africa in the 1990’s
* The spread of grace
* John 12:24 “Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” (NIV)
Thoughts to share at mini church:
1. Why did Jesus heal the Roman soldier’s ear that had been cut off?
2. Why did Jesus walk as a Messiah of grace, and not as a political Messiah?
3. Have you had an experience in which you have seen that people can change through inner change, not through external pressure?
