“Ahimelek and the Image of the Church”
Pastor Joey Anjiki
1. People are desiring God
* Why did David first quickly go to the town of Nob?
“To seek only the hand of the protection of God, and seek peace”
* An episode in Charlie Chaplin’s life
2. Showing mercy
* Two commands for the withdrawn bread
(1) It was only allowed to be eaten by priests
(2) It was only allowed to be eaten in the sanctuary
* Matthew 12:3-4 “He answered, ‘Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests.’” (NIV)
* Acts 2:47 “praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (NIV)
3. The High Priest who became the substitute
* Hebrews 9:11-12 “But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption.” (NIV)
Thoughts to share at mini church:
1. Why did David go to Nob? What are many of the people of the world trying to fill the thirst of their hearts with?
2. What kind of application does Ahimelek giving bread and a sword to David have to us as the Church?
3. Let us remember what Jesus, our High Priest, has done for us.
