On the occasion of World Hamburger Day, it is rumoured that McDonald’s has filed the patent for a burger that can be safely consumed while driving any vehicle. The new burger is set to be launched in the latter half of the year once the patent has been issued.
McDonald’s is one of the largest fast-food chains in the world with close to 40,000 outlets worldwide serving over 70 million customers daily across 100 countries. They are also the second-largest private employer in the world after Walmart, employing over 1.7 million people in its stores. They are known for being the food of choice for people looking for a quick meal and also for families worldwide.
The McDonald corporation was founded in 1940 by Richard and Maurice McDonald in California before being brought out by its first franchisee Ray Kroc. The global HQ shifted from Illinois to Chicago in 2018 and they currently boast annual revenue of 2.9 billion USD making it one of the largest fast-food chains by revenue as well.
The style of restaurant varies around the world, with McDonald’s operating on various models. Apart from the classic sit down and eat style they are also heavily into the Drive-Thru, Walk Thru and McCafe style concept. They are also connected to gas stations and other stores via the McExpress brand. McDonald’s Playground is an indoor/outdoor open concept with prominent play areas for children attached to the restaurant and they also introduced the “Create Your Own Table” concept in 2015. They also briefly flirted with the concept of a gourmet burger which is served at the table before shelving it in favour of the Signature Burger menu.
McDonald’s is also known for introducing various innovative concepts in its menu and also for adapting to the market that they operate in. They have multiple kosher restaurants around the world and also operate halal stores in the Middle East. In India, they do not serve beef while in Europe they serve beer. They also take into consideration the local palette and have introduced rice dishes in Indonesia, Prawn burgers in Japan and the Aloo Tikki in India.
It is this innovative streak within the culture that has propelled McDonald’s into the forefront of fast food service restaurants around the world.
