Listen Later

Skies over McKinney woke up clear and sunny this morning, shaking off a muggy weekend filled with high humidity. Temperatures hit the mid-80s on Sunday but a cool north breeze last night made for a comfortable sleep and an easy start to the week. Residents dealing with allergies can breathe a bit easier today, as the pollen count has dropped slightly thanks to last night’s brief rain, though oak and grass remain moderate. Air quality is considered good across Collin County this morning, according to the latest reports, so it’s a green light to enjoy the outdoors.

Sports fans had plenty to cheer about over the weekend. McKinney High’s baseball team clinched a hard-fought victory against their cross-town rivals, topping the Lions 6-4 in a dramatic seventh inning comeback. Over at the soccer fields, the North Side Jaguars girls’ team advanced to the regional semifinals after a penalty shootout win, capping off an electrifying evening under the lights.

Sunday saw the city abuzz with excitement for culture and community. The Heart Land – Sostenuto Spring Concert returns tonight at 7:30 PM at First Baptist McKinney. This year’s program, featuring American Rhapsody and other crowd-pleasers, promises to draw a lively crowd with its blend of familiar tunes and up-and-coming talent. Art lovers and car enthusiasts can look ahead to the free Cars and Guitars show on May 31, with classic cars, live music from Adobe Road, and plenty of food trucks to keep spirits high.

On the civic front, McKinney is making headlines after a major step forward in bringing commercial flights to the city. City Council just approved a construction agreement for the new terminal at McKinney National Airport. With construction set to break ground next month, flights could take off as early as the end of next year. Mayor George Fuller called it building more than a terminal, but building opportunity for the future—exciting news for business travelers and vacationers alike.

All in all, McKinney is riding into a new week with a winning streak—on the field, on the stage, and in the sky.
