MDC 16: Judge and Judge Alike

Listen Later

It's been a month since we've talked but, long story short, life and family come before podcasting.

This week we got into the idea of judging other parents. Some people may say that we have to all be fair and it is wrong to judge each other's parenting skills. But really how are we going to learn what is "good" or "bad" parenting if we don't judge each other on some level. Now this is not to say that we think you should go out and ridicule people for their parenting beliefs or style. (Leave that to us.) But you should look at other people, and the way they parent their children, to shape the way you raise your own children. Of course everybody is different and your upbringing and your beliefs will determine how your views of other parents will shape you. Overall it's not about making someone else change their style of parenting to match yours, but about taking your observations to shape YOU.

Since ReAnna came from the southern tradition of "children should be seen and not heard" we have a certain level of that in our expectations for our boys. We also touch on "helicopter" parenting and it is bleeding over into Halloween. We discuss the new trend of "Trunk of Treating" and teenagers and high school kids still trick or treating.

In true "we can't stay on topic" fashion we end up talking about the lessons learned from parental experience and why you should never expect kid 2 to be anything like child 1. Practical lessons about how to change diapers can be carried over, but you can throw the manual away when kid 2 arrives.
Everything this week boils down simply to "I'll do me, you do you."
