During this IG Live interview, I had the pleasure of speaking with one of my favorite past educators, Ashanti Branch. Ashanti is the founder of The Ever Forward Club, a non profit that mentors young POC males and provides a space for them to communicate their feelings.
It is teachers like Ashanti who make a real difference in the lives of students and provide tools that kids can apply to the outside world and their lives.
Not only does The Ever Forward Club mentor the youth, they also provide workshops for parents, educators and community workers to develop social-emotional skills.
To learn more about The Ever Forward Club, you can visit their website.
To participate in the #millionmaskmovement, take two pictures of yourself and upload it to social media. Take one picture with your mask on and one picture with your mask off. In the caption write 3 qualities that you let others see and #frontofmask and then 3 words that describe what you don't let people see and #backofmask. #millionmaskmovement #milmaskmove
Savannah Stone is a queer, Latin x woman working as a psychotherapist and art therapist in downtown Chicago. During this discussion she shared what it means to be an ally, the education we need to acquire in order to be an active ally, practical ways to support anti racism and our black communities and ways to care for your mental health during this time.
In this episode (recorded through IGTV) Shani explains the history of systemic racism, implicit biases, cultural appropriation, white guilt and the strategic and emotional guidance we need to move forward.
In a world written by white supremacy, we need to go back to the beginning and learn what we were not taught in school. That itself is an example of how deeply systemic racism runs. The leaders that write the laws around the institution of education have strategically taught us the facts they want us to know and intentionally left out what they wanted us to forget.

She danced her way into a sculpture and design class in 2007, where her love for soldering and metalsmithing began. For over ten years, she has been making jewelry and utilizing this art form as a therapeutic practice. She has now followed her dreams and moved to New York, where she is currently a Masters Graduate and Research Assistant at Columbia University. Janesse blends her creativity with her study focus, which is empowering others to heal from trauma, addiction and eating disorders. Her jewelry design is used as a way to ground and heal herself, in addition to aiding others in their healing journey through crystal work and mindfulness.
