contraindicated in cephalosporin and possibly penicillin allergies

may need lead to seizures, pseudomembranous colitis, diarrhea, phlebitis at IV site, anaphylaxis

Assess infection and allergies

obtain cultures prior to therapy

monitor bowel function

may lead to super infection
