There was a lot of criticism this week from child advocacy groups when ANC Mpumalanga Provincial Executive Committee member and former MEC who has been accused of raping his children was named despite journalistic rules aimed at protecting the child. We use this opportunity now to look at the responsibility of media practitioners in naming child sex offenders. Experts say that this may cause trauma to young victims. Also now with the emergence of social media, covering such cases requires more caution. What it is that us as the media should always be conscious of?
