Most of you are familiar with the basic teachings of Buddhism - which you can basically group into two: the wisdom teachings and practices and the compassion teachings and practices. The wisdom teachings and practices are sometimes called the prajna teachings or the “emptiness” teachings and practices such as the Heart Sutra which teaches form is emptiness, emptiness is form. Those wisdom teachings are seeing into the impermanence and insubstantiality of all conditioned existence including the personal self. Then the compassion teachings are also building on or flowing from the wisdom teachings emphasising the interdependence and interconnectedness of all conditioned existence including ourselves. The two mutually support and complement each other all the time. We are always working with the two teachings and practices.
