Barbarik is a legendary warrior from ancient Indian literature who is said to have had a mind that worked like artificial intelligence (AI):
The story
The story of Barbarik is told in the Kumārikā Khaṇḍa of the Skanda Purāṇa. It describes how Barbarik's responses to stimuli and questions seemed mechanical, similar to a robot.
The warrior
Barbarik was a grandson of Bhima, the second Pandava brother, and the son of Ghatotkacha. He was a mighty warrior who learned the art of warfare from his mother, Ahilāvati. Lord Shiva gave him three infallible arrows.
The encounter
In the story, Barbarik encounters Shree Krishna during the Mahabharata war. Barbarik's responses to Shree Krishna's questions and stimuli astounded him, and presented him with a moral dilemma.
Since then, Barbarik is worshipped in the name of Khaatu Shyamji and has become immortal. He enjoys the same divinity as Lord Krishna. His immortal head witnessed the entire battle of Mahabharata till the end and then later disappeared into oblivion.
The promise
Barbarik promised his guru, Vijay Sidh Sen, that he would always fight for the weaker side in battle and not use his arrows for personal glory.
Reference in Vyasa Mahabharatha
Since Barbarik was a robot with artificial intelligence rather than a living human, the author omitted this detail.

Barbarik was a Yaksha who got cursed by Lord Brahma
Present - Reincarnation of Barbarika
KhatuShyam or Khatu Shyamji or Shyam Baba is a manifestation of Barbarika, son of Ghatotkacha. Barbarik's Head Found in Khatoo Village. The location was obscured until well after the Kali Yuga period began. Khatushyamji is believed to be the Deva of the Kaliyuga. It is said that the Hindu deity has obtained a boon from Lord Krishna that he would be revered by Krishna's own name (Shyam) and worshipped in that way.
