Coach Shaw's coaching career has been nothing short of remarkable. The team's journey from eight to 12, and eventually to a 16-12 record last year, is a testament to his leadership and coaching prowess.
Before taking the helm at Maryville, Coach Shaw made a significant impact as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). He played a pivotal role in guiding the Tritons to 72 victories, including a record-setting 27-6 season, the first GLVC regular-season title, and an appearance in the GLVC Tournament finals. Under his guidance, UMSL achieved the highest national ranking in school history (at the time) and recorded back-to-back 20-win campaigns for the first time.
Prior to UMSL, Coach Shaw worked his magic at Pratt Community College, transforming the last-place team in the region into a regional champion. He developed numerous NCAA Division I signees, All-Conference selections, and professional basketball players during his tenure. His accolades include NJCAA Region VI Coach of the Year and KBCA Junior College Men's Coach of the Year honors.
As a graduate assistant coach at Emporia State, Coach Shaw played a pivotal role in achieving school records, including a No. 7 national ranking and an NCAA DII National Tournament berth. He continued to make history by leading the Hornets to their only MIAA Tournament championship game and tying their program record with the No. 7 national ranking.
Jesse Shaw's impressive playing career at Northwest Missouri State University laid the foundation for his successful coaching journey.
