Meet the Parents (with Alex Perlman)

Listen Later

Our exit today has us going to meet our significant other’s parents and trying to make a good impression. This week, we are talking about Meet the Parents, written by Jim Herzfeld and John Hamburg based on a story by Greg Glienna and Mary Ruth Clarke, and our third film directed by Jay Roach. Is this a perfect Thanksgiving film? We think so!

Along the way, we bring along Alex Perlman to reflect back on the cultural phenomenon that was this movie and why they don't make this like anymore. Plus, Get Out, Godspell and Oklahoma!, the movie stardom of Robert De Niro, and a long journey through the development of this idea and film. And also SNL sketches to film, smoking in movies, the anxiety this film creates, and our love of character actors (James Rebhorn alert!).
