शमिता काकी पति के गुज़र जाने के बाद अपना जीवन बेटी पर समर्पित कर चुकी थीं। वृद्धावस्था के पड़ाव पर पहुंच कर अहसास हुआ कि एक साथी की ज़रूरत है। परन्तु बेटी तथा समाज के डर ने उनके कदम रोक लिए। विधवा के रूप से निकल कर एक सुहागन का रूप लेना आसान नहीं था।
