The tithe given to Melchizedek is more important than the one received by the Levitical priests. Since Melchizedek was not an Israelite and his priesthood predates the law of Moses, Abraham’s tithe to him demonstrates Melchizedek’s greater significance. Additionally, Melchizedek blessed Abraham (Genesis 14:18–20), which indicates Abraham’s lower status, as blessings usually come from the superior (Hebrews 7:7).
