In March 2019 I had the pleasure of returning to Seattle for the first time since moving away to DJ at an amazingly fun party called Meltdown at Club Contour, thrown by my buddy Alfonso. The recording sound was low tho, so I've re-recorded it with nearly the exact same tracklist and transitions but with a couple extra tracks I felt I 'missed' to fill it out a bit.
DJ Alfonso Tan kicked the party off with a killer house set, that filled the dance floor with great energy and bouncin vibes, and handed it over to me with an absolute banger track that was pure FIRE. I couldn't have asked for a better lead in, and I took over at 12:30am in total peak-time energy mode.
My vision for this set was very clear; this was my first time playing in Seattle in a year, so it felt like a homecoming for me. It was going to be the first time seeing a lot of my friends there and I really wanted to showcase how my sound has evolved in that time. I had a really busy travel season this past winter, playing some really fun parties in San Diego, San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago, and LA over the course of just 6 weeks. I really wanted to play some of my favorite tracks from this season, and also hit a few new discoveries along the way. I came in with 100 tracks in a crate, with 30 faves, which is more concise than my usual gig prep. I'm glad I took this approach because I was super happy with how the set unfolded!
I start in peak-time mode with very high energy and some fierce vocals. Around 1am I wanted to take things into deeper, sexier territory, so the next hour gets progressively deeper with some groovy basslines, funky percussion, and some more subdued vocals/samples. The crowd responded with a lot of close, sexy dancing, which is what I live for when I'm playing! Then I took a brief dip into some old school house classics right around last call at 2am to bring the energy back up a bit. I wanted to make sure everyone knew that the party was gonna go strong until 3am, so the last hour I brought back some high energy bangers to keep everyone dancing until closing time. I still had a strong dance floor holding it til close, and I love a good emotional end to a great party, so I closed things off with two of my favorite euphoric/tearjerker tracks of the moment.
This trip to Seattle to play Meltdown was such a wonderful experience, catching up with my friends and playing music I've been loving lately. It reminded me of everything I love about DJing and how lucky I am to share what I am passionate about, that brings me and others such joy. I wanted to capture this feeling in a recording and I'm really happy with how it came out.
Hope you enjoy it too! If you like it, please considering sharing it. Word of mouth from friends goes a long way for DJs! =)
