This Memorial Day, while many of us are spending time with family and friends, it’s important to remember what the holiday is actually about.

Memorial Day honors the Americans who lost their lives serving our country. Men and women who never got to come home, grow older, raise families, or enjoy the freedoms they helped protect for the rest of us. 

Here in Shreveport, we understand that sacrifice deeply because of our close connection to Barksdale Air Force Base and the many military families who are part of our community.

On behalf of the City of Shreveport, I wish everyone a safe Memorial Day weekend, and I ask that we remember those who gave their lives in service to our nation.
