Lilacs blooming on Memorial Day bring back special memories for me from my youth when I marched in the hometown parade carrying a small flag to decorate a veteran’s grave. Afterwards, lilacs would be placed in the lake on the edge of the cemetery, a firing squad would fire three times. and taps would be played. It still lingers in my mind.
