At the opening of The Rafiki Gallery’s latest exhibition ‘Memories & Visions’ (9 - 22 July 2021), guest host and London based writer Georgina Saunders, holds a discussion with exhibiting artists Rowan Rosie and David Ian Brown, with insight from gallery director Leo Sartain.
In this episode we start by exploring how the exhibition came to fruition as part of an unconventional gallery residency at the Upright Gallery in Edinburgh, and take a look at the many ways in which the concept of memories and visions applies to each artist’s practice. Later in the episode we dive into the processes and inspirations behind the work and begin to uncover the similarities and differences they share. Both working as abstract artists who experiment with colour, layering and textures, we draw out key influences of place and emotive connections, which filter into the viewer's experience and compliment each other within this intimate gallery space.
Thank you so much to Georgina for hosting and to Rowan and David for coming on the podcast.
