  • Once there was a shepherd

  • Every day he drove the flock to the hillside to graze

  • One morning he found a hole in the sheepfold
  • A neighbor saw it and said

  • The shepherd looked at the hole
  • He thought the hole was so small how could a wolf get in
  • So he waved his hand and said
  • The sheep are all fine Why fix the hole It's a waste of time

  • The next morning the shepherd came to the sheepfold
  • He found one sheep missing
  • There were wolf footprints on the ground
  • The hole had been torn wider

  • The neighbor sighed and said
  • I told you to fix it yesterday You didn't listen Now you regret it don't you

  • The shepherd hung his head
  • He felt sad and regretful
  • He thought is it still useful to fix it now The sheep is already gone

  • But then he thought if I don't fix it the remaining sheep will be taken by the wolf too

  • So he picked up wood and rope
  • He firmly patched the hole in the sheepfold
  • He even strengthened the whole sheepfold

  • From then on his sheep were never lost again

  • Later people used mending the fold after losing sheep to mean fixing a problem in time is not too late
