In a world full of distractions, challenges, and endless noise, it is easy to get caught in a cycle of reaction — responding to external circumstances without fully understanding the underlying truths. Yet, to truly advance in life, whether spiritually, emotionally, or intellectually, we must adopt a different approach: constructive thinking. This is not just about problem-solving or positive thinking, but about consciously creating the future we desire, building upon what is true and worthy, and actively shaping our reality from the inside out.
Grandmaster WaXhira of the Sacred Atlantean Brotherhood teaches, “Constructive thinking is the highest form of mental alchemy. It is not about being reactive or passive; it is about taking conscious control over your thoughts and shaping them to create the reality you wish to experience.” This type of thinking is the foundational tool for those on the path of spiritual evolution. It calls us to move beyond mere intellectual understanding and to begin creating with intention, clarity, and purpose.
At its core, constructive thinking is an active process. It requires awareness, discipline, and focus. The average person may drift through life, reacting to circumstances and responding to external stimuli. But a person who practices constructive thinking is always aware of the mental and emotional state they are in and makes a conscious choice to direct their thoughts towards the desired outcome. This is the first step toward advancement — the understanding that our thoughts are not just fleeting impulses, but powerful forces capable of shaping our external world.
The teachings of the Sacred Atlantean Brotherhood focus on harnessing the mind as the tool for transformation. The working tools of the Brotherhood’s degrees — such as the Ocean, Wave, and Ship — are designed to guide members in refining their mental and spiritual faculties. Constructive thinking is taught from the earliest stages, beginning with the Initiate degree, where the tools of the Ocean and Wave help align the thought process with the highest spiritual truths. These tools guide the practitioner in turning the mind away from distractions and toward the creation of a unified, empowered reality.
In the Navigator and Captain degrees, the tools become even more refined. The Compass, Anchor, and Captain’s Wheel assist members in cultivating a rational mind, focused intent, and clarity of purpose. By focusing the mind and aligning it with the higher principles of truth and wisdom, members begin to think constructively not just about their personal lives, but about the world around them and their role in the greater cosmic order. Constructive thinking becomes a means of building a life aligned with the universal laws of love, peace, and divine purpose.
Jesus himself, in the Gospel of Thomas, speaks to this concept when he says, “If you bring forth what is within you, what you have will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” (Gospel of Thomas 50) This teaching directly relates to the power of constructive thinking. Jesus reminds us that within each of us is the potential to create something powerful, something aligned with the divine truth of our being. The key to unlocking this potential is active creation, which begins in the mind. When we bring forth what is within us — through our thoughts, intentions, and actions — we are creating a reality that serves our highest good. Failing to do so leads to stagnation, to living in reaction, and ultimately to destruction.
