How do we support and show compassion for ourselves through the transition of motherhood?

This question is something that today’s guest, Dr. Catherine Birndorf strives to work towards in her work as a psychiatrist and medical director of the Motherhood Center in New York. Co-author of the book, What No One Tells You, Dr. Birndorf makes it her mission to bring awareness to maternal mental health specifically in the postpartum period and into the transition of motherhood.

On today’s episode, Dr. Birndorf walks us through the importance of support in maternal mental health, the identity shift that motherhood brings, and the various resources that are available for women who suffer from perinatal mood disorders.

Dr. Birndorf will also be sharing about the new meditation journey that she created with Expectful, entitled Navigating Postpartum Depression – a series of five guided meditations now live in Expectful’s postpartum library that support women in understanding and finding the emotional support they need while navigating postpartum depression.
