Alex Barnard is an assistant professor of Sociology at New York University. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, an MPhil in International Development from the University of Oxford, and a BA in Sociology from Princeton University. His areas of research interest include Medical Sociology and Mental Health, Political Sociology, Comparative Cultural Sociology, Social Policy, Social Theory. On this episode, we discuss his book project, Mental States (under contract with Colombia University Press), which looks into how medical and governmental institutions make decisions concerning people living with severe mental illness in France and the USA.
