Ostrolenk speaks on society’s transformation from an industrial to informational age, and how, consequently, this will impact the mediating institutions in our lives. First defining mediating institutions as those that act as intermediaries between our personal life and the services we desire (i.e. a school to get education, a doctor to get medicine), Ostrolenk then discusses how information will alter the status quo. He argues, in the coming years there will be more direct contact between individuals and their services, and mediating institutions will either alter or cease to exist.
