Mentors have been mistaken by many to mean role models, coaches, counsellors and much more. A mentor has been defined in this podcast as an individual who provides expertise and professional knowledge to another person- called the Mentee; in order to enable him/her excel in a particular field. A Mentor must have enough information on the subject matter most preferable from work experiences or academic pursuit. Mentors help individuals to have clarity through proven methods or skills which they have personally built in the past or are currently trying out. In recent times, many young people seem not to be aware of the importance of having Mentors as they would rather seek counselling or coaching and spend time on trial and errors. While these- coaching, counselling have their unique benefits, mentorship on a specific course or career should not be misplaced with the latter. Mentorship is a relationship where both individuals benefit from.
