Sermon Overview: “Merciful Steadfast Love” on Psalm 32
Theme: True joy and freedom are found in God’s merciful forgiveness and steadfast love.
Big Idea: God’s greatest blessing is full forgiveness through Christ. This blessing moves us to confess quickly, trust deeply, and rejoice fully in His steadfast love.
________________________________________
Outline
I. The Blessing of Forgiveness (vv. 1–5)
Forgiveness described in three ways: transgression forgiven, sin covered, iniquity not counted.
David’s testimony: silence brings misery; confession brings freedom.
Joy flows from knowing our sins are fully pardoned by grace, not earned by works.
Christ Connection: Jesus bore our iniquity so God could count us righteous.
II. The Call to Confession and Trust (vv. 6–11)
Urgent invitation: “Let everyone who is godly pray… while You may be found.”
God Himself promises guidance—don’t be stubborn like a mule.
Two paths: many sorrows for the wicked, steadfast love surrounding those who trust the Lord.
Response: Be glad, rejoice, and shout for joy in God’s mercy!

Key Gospel Emphasis
Jesus fulfilled Psalm 32 by becoming sin for us (2 Cor. 5:21). He was forsaken so we might be forgiven, covered, and counted righteous—surrounded forever by God’s steadfast love.
