Since the mid-1960s, Meredith Monk has been a pioneer of interdisciplinary performance and of what is now called ‘extended vocal technique'. Among her many accolades are a MacArthur ‘Genius' Award and a Grammy nomination for her 2008 album, impermanence. Beginning with a typically visionary exploration of the human voice, Monk explores her concurrent creation of multifaceted music-theater works, films and installations.
