Merlin was named after a plumber not the magician. He grew up in northwestern Minnesota in a place so exotic that it was featured in the Smithsonian Magazine in an article on Wild Rice. After college he was a physics teacher as a Peace Corp Volunteer in Ghana. He entered medical school and eventually came to call Alaska Home via Duluth, St.Paul, New Orleans, Chicago and Detroit.
