In this episode, Jasmine and her guest Carol explore the important connection between emotions and eating, including overeating and not eating, and how life experiences can influence our relationship with food.
Jasmine also talks about her children’s poetry and picture book, In The Mood For Food. The story follows a little girl who reaches out to children experiencing obesity, asking thoughtful questions about their lives at home and at school. She encourages them to open up and reminds them that, if they don't feel comfortable telling anyone else their secrets, they can talk to her.
The conversation continues with Friendship Cookie Seed, where the little girl from the first book, now with her sister, connects with children around the world and brings attention to those who don't have enough food.
Jasmine and Carol also discuss women’s insecurities and body image. Carol talks about the influence of social media and the pressure to live up to unrealistic ideas of the “perfect body.” Jasmine shares a personal experience from a time when she was a size 4 but believed she was overweight—not because of social media, but because of a relationship in which a man tried to project his own insecurities onto her.
Jasmine explains why he ultimately couldn't make those insecurities her own: she knew who she was and was strong enough not to accept someone else's perception of her. Her message is simple and powerful: never allow anyone to make you feel insecure about yourself.
A conversation about food, feelings, childhood, body image, self-worth, and the strength to see yourself through your own eyes.
