He left behind a note for his parents which said he was leaving on a "42-month interstellar voyage" aboard an alien ship. The night of his disappearance, a huge storm passed through Taylor's hometown. In 1986, the remnants of a truck, thought to be Taylor's, were found on a nearby mountain.
