As a result of government proposals for metadata retention, metadata has been in the news quite a lot lately. The proposal is that all metadata of specific types be collected for all communications activity in Australia. Not surprisingly, this has attracted some controversy. In this talk I will explain what metadata is, how it can be used in investigations, what the proposals are, and some of the issues they raise. Presented 23rd Apr 2015.
